Plogging

“The secret of change is not to focus all of your energy on fighting the old, but on building the new.”

#777challenge a social media movement by L’Escargot Anglais aka Edmund Platt : 7 days, 7 items, 7 posts – I’m on day 3, or is it 4?

I’ve lost count because I do the action every single time I go outdoors, sometimes several times a day. If I see it and I don’t already have my hands full, then I’m sure as heck gunna pick it up.

I don’t always post pictures and I’m certainly not the only one. Online or offline, there are so many others who are silently, or loudly, making positive differences in their communities by integrating #cleanwalking , or “plogging” into their regular activities.

Yet now more than ever, it is so very important to make as much noise as we can about how we want to see the world evolving, to actively become a part of that change in whichever way we can and what better way to do that, than with an enormous community of people already doing the same?

If you’re new to the concept it’s really very simple. Instead of pretending that you don’t see rubbish when you walk past it, you snap a picture of it, pick it up and put it in the nearest bin. Then post the pic of your action on social media and tag your friends to get involved, spread the good vibes and be the change you want to see.

What’s the point you may be asking? The point is that you live here! You wouldn’t leave your bedroom littered with decaying crap, hoping that the landlord will pop by and clean it just because you pay your rent. Whoever’s fault it may be that it’s like this to start off with doesn’t change the fact it’s like this now, that you live here too and can if you choose to take back your power, do something about it.

The point is that the current system we have in place isn’t working. So we can either moan about it, pass blame, or take action, and I know which team I want to be in. It’s time we all pitched together, it would be so much more effective and make a huge difference to where we all live.

After all is said and done it is OUR planet and it’s OUR power to play with. We decide. So what are we putting ourselves on the bench for? It’s go time baby.

The rules are easy, see it, snap it, pick it up and bin it. Post it, tag it, share it. Just upload it. (Technologic. Technologic.).
